Dryness of the nose is a common symptom of certain unfavourable environmental conditions and can also be a side effect of medications. The nose requires a specific humidity level, and extremely hot or dry situations can affect the dry nose.

Common causes of dry nose

Environmental conditions that lack humidness commonly cause dry nose and include:

  • Sauna without steam

Other causes of the dry nose includes –

  • Medicines, such as decongestants, antihistamines and anticholinergics
  • Misuse of nasal sprays
  • Sjogren’s syndrome

How are dry sinuses treated?

  • During the night, place a humidifier in your bedroom to keep the air from getting too dry
  • Stay hydrated – drink plenty of water
  • Get some fresh air
  • Remove all kinds of allergens and irritants from your environment
  • Use of nasal spray to hydrate and lubricate your nasal passages
  • Hot water bath and inhale the steam
